IntuiTV was a streaming television product which allowed our designers to explore the relationship between the interface and the remote control in a completely new way.
Our hardware design team developed a custom e-ink remote that allowed for a 1:1 sync with the TV interface using precise swipe and drag, creating the effect of turning your TV into a big touch screen without having to stand near the screen to use it. We were excited at the new challenges and opportunities this user experience presented.
Channel tuning with IntuiTV was done by swiping left/right but a viewer could also fine tune their experience by dragging for a channel peek. As you started to drag from the right edge to the left, the next channel information pushed the current channel over, taking up the same amount of screen space as your drag percentage. As you continued dragging, the next channel took over more of the screen and on release, the dominant channel was displayed.
We also took advantage of the remote sync to re-imagine the Program Guide. While watching video, swiping up would reveal a strip of live channels so you can easily browse what’s on with minimal interruption to the currently airing show. A second swipe or continued drag would reveal the rest of the Guide, showing future airings across channels. The currently airing video would scale down in sync with the drag for added effect.
